A hundred years ago, a battle between a swordsman Nagi, and eight headed demon Orochi took place inside Moon Cave. Nagi was determined to slay the demon to safe his beloved Nami. When Nagi was almost defeated, a white wolf called Shiranui came to his rescue. Together, they fought Orochi back and managed to seal the demon inside Nagi's sword. However, Shiranui was poisoned and wounded, and before long he passed away. The villager of Kamiki, grateful for his deed, built a shrine to honor both Nagi and Shiranui. A century has passed. Now, a man disturbed Nagi's sword inside Moon Cave, thus releasing Orochi from his confinement who then starts to corrupt the land. The player plays as Amaterasu, the sun goddess, who is the reincarnation of Shiranui. With the help of Issun, a one inch tall wondering artist, the duo will need to travel to the corners of Nipon to undo Orochi's corruption and to vanquish him once and for all.
